Certified or Sworn Translations?
Certified translations and sworn translations are both used to confirm the accuracy of a translated document, but they are different.
A sworn translation is performed by a translator who is officially authorized by the government in a specific country. This type of translation is legally binding and is required for documents used in legal matters or submitted to public authorities. Sworn translators follow strict rules, and their work affects the legal status of the document. They usually provide a signed statement about the accuracy of the translation, and the document may have an official stamp or seal.
A certified translation, on the other hand, is a translation that comes with a formal statement from the translator or translation company, confirming that the translation is accurate and complete. Unlike sworn translations, certified translations can be done by any professional translator. The certification includes the translator's signature, contact details, and the date.
Sworn translations are needed for legal documents like court orders, birth certificates, and contracts. Certified translations are used for a wider range of documents, such as academic transcripts, diplomas, medical records, and financial statements, when these documents are sent to educational institutions, government offices, or other organizations.
I provide certified translations that are accompanied by my signature to guarantee quality and validity. However, if you require a document for submission to an official institution that mandates a seal or official stamp, I recommend reaching out to a translation agency.
